Picture Car Company has added the 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS to its roster through the USA Movie Cars network. Crews working on period projects or seeking distinctive background texture now have a local option that matches the era and style many scripts require.

Spotlight on this 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS

The listing shows a Sonic Bronze hatchback with matching orange interior. It is described as all original with very low mileage, keeping the clean lines and proportions that defined early RX-7 models. Two-door configuration and manual transmission add to the period driving character that shows up on camera during tracking shots or dialogue scenes inside the car.

Producers can place this Mazda in scenes set in the late 1970s or early 1980s where a compact sports car helps establish time and place. The orange exterior stands out against New Mexico desert or city backdrops, while the hatchback body offers practical access for equipment or props during shoots. Its compact size also works well for tight parking shots or street scenes where larger vehicles would crowd the frame.

Picture Car Company and the New Mexico Picture Car Market

Picture Car Company maintains connections with USA Movie Cars to expand the pool of vehicles available to productions filming in New Mexico. Albuquerque serves as a central hub for many shoots, and having this 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS listed locally reduces the need to bring cars from out of state. USA Movie Cars works with state picture-car sites such as New Mexico Picture Cars to help productions find local picture vehicles more quickly.

This network approach benefits location managers and picture car coordinators who need reliable options across the Southwest. When a production books through Picture Car Company, the vehicle remains in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and can be coordinated with other regional assets. The result is shorter turnaround times for approvals and fewer variables when schedules shift.

History of the 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS

The 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS belongs to the first generation of RX-7 sports cars introduced in the United States at the end of the 1970s. Mazda positioned the model as a nimble, front-engine, rear-drive hatchback aimed at enthusiasts who wanted an alternative to heavier American muscle cars or European imports. The GS trim represented a well-equipped version that still retained the lightweight feel that made the car popular in its day.

Hatchback body style and two-door layout gave the RX-7 a distinctive silhouette that appears in many films and television shows set during that decade. Its compact dimensions and low stance made it suitable for both urban driving sequences and open-road shots. The model year places it squarely in the late 1970s, a period when smaller imported sports cars began appearing more frequently in American media.

New Mexico Picture Car Rental Uses

Crews filming in New Mexico can use the 1979 Mazda RX-7 GS for establishing shots that need a period vehicle parked in front of buildings or along highways. Its orange color provides visual contrast in desert landscapes or against adobe architecture common in the state. The car also works as a character vehicle for supporting roles where the owner is portrayed as someone who values a distinctive import from that era.

Still photographers and music video directors often seek compact sports cars for lifestyle or performance imagery. This Mazda supplies that texture without requiring modern modifications. Event planners and branded content teams have placed similar vintage vehicles at gatherings to create photo opportunities or to serve as static displays that reinforce a 1970s theme.
